Priorat
The Priorat is located in the middle of the Prelitoral mountain range between the Camp de Tarragona and Les Terres de l’Ebre, and borders the regions of El Baix Camp, La Ribera d’Ebre, Les Garrigues and La Conca de Barberà. It is a mountainous region with a very rugged relief.
The DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant are the two wine appellations of origin of the Priorat region, which share a winemaking history dating back to the 12th century. The mining exploitation of the Siurana basin has bequeathed us one of the most important metallurgical mining complexes in the country, in the village of Bellmunt. It is a region with many festivities around the culture of wine and food, such as the Festival of the Trout with Juice of Ulldemolins, the Festival of the Saleswoman in the Old Solivella or the Wine Fair of Falset.
The Priorat is a region that basically lives from the countryside. In the dry land there are four main crops: vines, olives, hazelnuts and almonds. Livestock farming is very limited, practically non-existent, and industrial activity is insignificant. Only the capital, Falset, has an important activity in the service sector.
The municipalities of the region are: Bellmunt del Priorat; Cabacés; Capçanes; Cornudella de Montsant; El Lloar; El Masroig; El Molar; Els Guiamets; Falset; Gratallops; La Bisbal de Falset; La Figuera; La Morera de Montsant; La Torre de Fontaubella; La Vilella Alta; La Vilella Baixa; Marçà; Margalef; Poboleda; Porrera; Pradell de La Teixeta; Torroja del Priorat; Ulldemolins.
