Alt Camp

Alt Camp is a pre-coastal region. It is bordered to the north by a mountain range that joins two large massifs: the Prades mountain range and the Gaià block. From north to south it is crossed by the Francolí and Gaià rivers. It has a Mediterranean climate with maritime influence.

Its capital, Valls, is considered the cradle of castles, a tradition with more than two hundred years old. One of the most outstanding monuments of Alt Camp is the monastery of Santes Creus, in the municipality of Aiguamúrcia. It is one of the three monasteries of the Cistercian Route.

Its economy is based on: rain-fed agriculture with fruit trees (almond and hazelnut trees), olive trees, vineyards, cereals and carob trees; livestock farming (poultry and pigs), and industries such as metallurgy, construction, textiles, food, paper and wood. It has good communications by highway, road and railroad.
